"I just want to be perfect."

Yesterday

Went over in calories. Hit about 1,500 but I like to overestimate just a little.* Had two small slices of grapefruit and went nuts on some Kashi Go Lean crunch while watching ‘Golden Girls.’ I started to beat myself up about it but told myself not to obsess like that. I listened.

Went to the gym and didn’t have the most productive workout. Spent the day walking all over the city (at least 5 miles) and when I got to the gym and got on the treadmill my digestive system started to wage war against my body, I sliced my finger open and wore the most unflattering pants. I did some jogging, some jump roping, some intervals, some power walking on an incline. About 35 min or so. And another thing ? I didn’t go in with a plan. That was another mistake. But by anyone else’s standards I still had a good day, ate healthy, worked out, enjoyed the sun.

Just makes me realize how high expectations I set for myself.

But I am not a god.

*Breakfast: a grapefruit, a dry cup of Kashi. Lunch: Lara bar made of only cashews, dates. Dinner: raw, organic vegan salad from Lifethyme overflowing with veggies. Snacks: 2 cups Kashi, a small slice apple, two slices grapefruit

life:

Her sex-symbol image aside, Marilyn Monroe was an avid reader of 20th-century literature and was often photographed curling up with a book, as in this Peter Stackpole shot taken at her Hollywood home in 1953.

Ah, Dita Von Teese. What an incredibly sensual woman. She’s harnessed the power of every curve, every movement is overflowing with sexuality. She’s such an inspiration…

This photo of Victoria’s Secret Angel Candice Swanepoel makes me so excited for the summer. I’m going to be ready to rock a pair of tiny denim shorts just like her. I’ve never worn shorts before. Never felt confident enough. But this summer is going to be different. It’s Feb. 26 and I’m setting my goal date at April 2. I’d like to lose 8lbs but if I lose fat and gain lean muscle instead (all without changing weight much) then that’ll be alright. I just want to be tight, toned, fit. I’m going for a look rather than a number. I’ll know it when I look in the mirror and see it. Can’t wait until that day.
April 2, 2012 is going to be a good day ;)

I think this is Jessica Szhor. If it is then DAAAAMMMMNNNN. And if it isn’t then DAAAAMMMMNNN. Gorgeous body. Gorgeous skin. Gorgeous face. This is my inspiration to head to the uptown Equinox and kickbox on one of the kixkboxing bags there for at least 45min. Alright, time to go. Bye.

oh my god, want!

This is my inspiration for the day to go workout, to love being a woman, to love every second as I progress into something more beautiful, sexier than I was the day before. Come this summer I will look like this.

I’m just gonna say it - I LOVE grapefruit….. now.
I hated it as a kid - even when I was transfixed watching my grandfather take 25 minutes to painstakingly peel each.and.every.segment. We would sit at his kitchen table, he would take his little Swiss army knife out to score the peel, and the process would begin.
I would chatter on about whatever, he would give advice or tell a joke, all the while peeling away the pith from the ruby red fruit. He would always offer me a slice, I would always wrinkle my nose and shake my head in disgust.
But now, every time I see the spray released from that first break in the peel and smell that essence of grapefruit, I think of him. And smile.
Read my latest Poor Taste column for some great alternatives to just your plain old morning grapefruit here.

I’ve recently rediscovered the grapefruit. Particularly, Floridian grapefruits. They are on sale at Whole Foods for 89 cents each and I grabbed a few the other day. I peeled it not expecting much, broke it in two, broke it again and bit in still not expecting much. But OMFG it was so incredibly delicious, an orgasm in my mouth. A little sweet, unbelivably juicy and it’s great for Type As*. And I hear it helps with fat loss and is a superfood on its own (rivaling quinoa, kale, goji berries) and a massive grapefruit is only 106 calories.

*I used to work for a very well-known personal trainer who trains some of the biggest models in the industry. He introduced me to the Blood Type Diet and after meeting the brains behind it (Dr. Peter D’Adamo) and his team I began following the diet as well. I am a Type A and thrive on a vegetarian diet (I am 100% bonafide vegan). And grapefruit is highly beneficial for me.
